WATERMELON THIRTY-THREE HEROESA specially selected mix of early watermelon varieties that is grown in the open field. The ball-shaped fruits have a wide variety of colors: striped, almost black, light green, and white, with many different patterns. These vigorous plants are compact and heat and drought resistant. The mix consists of ultra-early to early ripe varieties and produce fruits from 2 to 3 lbs up to large ones of 7 to 13 lbs.Planting instructions:Try the seeds in the paper towel technique, and it will grow. Tear a paper towel in half and moisten one of the halves. Place four or five seeds on half of the paper and fold the other half over the seeds. Blow open a clear, sandwich size zip-close bag. Place the paper with seeds inside and reseal the bag. Set the bag anywhere out of direct sunlight that stays at room temperature. The bag acts like a miniature greenhouse that retains heat and moisture. You should observe seeds sprouting in about five to seven days. Use a hoe to make mounds that are approximately 2 feet across the top and 8 to 12 inches high. The mounds of loose soil help the roots become established and allow excess water to drain. Level the top of each mound. Use your finger to poke four equally-spaced holes in the leveled-off soil. Each hole should be about 1 inch deep. Deposit one seed in each hole and lightly rake the soil to cover the seeds. Be careful not to disturb the seeds during this process. Pack the soil lightly to keep the seeds from drying out too quickly when they are watered. Water the seeds. Plants should emerge within the first two weeks of planting.
