How does it work The vacation plant watering devices are made of a porous clay called terracotta. When you first use the plant watering device, it will take a while for the material to absorb to water. Once the water is absorbed by the clay, it will be released into the soil by osmosis until the soil is moist enough or until the bottle is empty. The Terracotta is a fragile material and will require a gentle use. To avoid any break, please make sure that the plant water funnel is at least ¾ into the soil. The deeper the better, in order to hold the bottle weight. Steps to use the spikes: 1- Soak the spike in water for 5 to 10 minutes. 2- Dig a hole in the soil. 3- Fill up an empty long neck bottle (glass or plastic) with water. 4- Place the stake on the bottle. 5- Flip the whole thing over, then place it gently into the previously dug hole (most of the spike must be in the soil). 6- Do not push the bottle in, or slam it hard in the stake, that would cause it to break. Important: Please test the water releasing speed before leaving your plants. Depending on your plant size, pot size etc. you might need more than one indoor plant stake or a bigger bottle.
